Course Aims This course develops the ability to communicate in basic French in a culturally appropriate manner using the four primary language skills: speaking, listening, comprehension, reading and writing. By studying the course, students gain familiarity with the French language: its sounds, rhythms, intonation, vocabulary, structure, and written form; beginning experiences in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in French; basic communication skills and the ability to express simple needs, and an introductory acquaintance with the cultures of French-speaking countries.
