ENG203 Victorian Literature
Course Aims

The course introduces students to the literary works, including poetry, short stories and novels published in the Victorian age (1837-1901). It addresses to some key intellectual and social issues, including science, industrialization, colonialism, the city and poverty, and aesthetics. Critical approaches will also be included, including Romanticism, Social Darwinism, Historicism and Neo-historicism, Aestheticism and Decadence, Gothicism among others. It will introduce also the continuing impact of the Victorian period through the study of Neo-Victorianism presented in literary texts, arts and transmedia adaptations.
