ENG320 Critical Analysis of Drama
Course Aims This course introduces the dramatic forms and styles in the Western literary tradition. It explores different approaches to dramatic criticism and draws students’ attention to matters of staging. Students will be able to identify the connection between drama performance and everyday life practices. They will analyse written scripts and the dynamic relationships between the text, body movement, staging devices and cultural references. Through the course, students will develop awareness of drama as one of the earliest forms of literature, how its historical significances and cultural influences have impacted literary development for centuries and how the written script goes beyond words to generates multiple forms of performance.
