ENG303 Research Methods in English Studies
Course Aims This course presents an introduction to research methods in English studies with an emphasis on the aspects of literary studies and applied linguistics. It prepares students for undertaking independent research for ENG490 Honours Project, as well as departmental advanced courses. The course describes the process and procedure in the conduct of literary studies and applied linguistics research, which range from the identification of research problems and formulation of research hypotheses to a critical review of relevant research literature and the selection of appropriate research designs including sampling procedures, methods of data collection and data analysis, instrumentation and measurement, statistical techniques, and modes of analysis.
