On February 6, 2026, the department hosted a lunchtime research seminar with four engaging presentations, covering hospice care services, contemporary gaming, Byronic heroism, and a poster presentation on Medusa.
Our Acting Head, Dr. Rebekah Bale, Dr. Jenny Wan, Dr. Viggo Cheng, our year 4 student Aasish Subedi, and Miss Jamie Tse.

Dr. Jenny Wan and Miss Jamie Tse presented on a recent UGC-funded FDS project Anticipatory grief in digital communication: Narratives in hospice care center websites and support group forums. They shared the project’s background and significance with the audience, with Miss Jamie Tse, specifically reflecting on the challenges she encountered in her role as a research assistant for the project.

Dr. Viggo Cheng gave a presentation on Talk, Play, and Identity: Interactional Practices in Contemporary Gaming. Drawing on vivid examples from real-life group gaming sessions, he effectively captured the audience's attention.

Dr. Flora Mak introduced heroism and heroines from a literary perspective, using both classic pieces and modern films to explain this intriguing concept.

Thank you to all the participants. We look forward to seeing you at next departmental event.
