Museum and Culture: The Making of The Louvre

Speaker: Professor LEUNG Mei Yee (梁美儀)

A lieu de mémoire (place of memory) par excellence, The Louvre is a museum  which, by the work of human endeavours and the work of time, becomes a symbolic element of the memorial sites not only of  the French, but of the human community. The lecture will trace the making of the Louvre throughout its history, and demonstrate how the museum itself as well as its collections are amalgamation of different historical époques and conflicting ideas of arts, instead of a homogeneous, harmonious and coherent whole.
