Kickstarting the New Semester W25 with an Inspiring Luncheon Research Seminar
On January 14, 2025, our Department of English Language and Literature celebrated the beginning of the new year 2025 and new semester with a delightful Luncheon Research Seminar. This event invited Year 1 and Year 2 students, as well as MPhil postgraduate students.
Event highlights:
Dr. Kacey Liu made her insightful presentation on eco-translation, titled “Nature in Translation: Exploring Depictions and Transformations in Ecological Themes.”
Miss Vienna Lee, an alumna and former ENG111 & 112 English Usage teacher, shared her latest research on literature studies with the topic “Postcolonial Gaslighting: De-pathologizing Representations of Mental Disorders in Wide Sargasso Sea.”
Miss Anna Yin, a Year 2 MPhil student, presented her work “A Corpus-assisted Study of Male and Female Differences in Translating The Second Sex,” sparking lively discussions among participants and teachers.
Miss Carrie Lee, another Year 2 MPhil student, explored “Exploring the Transmedia Narratives in Sleeping Beauty (1889) and Its Adaptations” in her engaging presentation.
The event concluded with very positive reflections from our students:
“I have learned how to develop research topics, enhance my academic presentation skills, and expand my knowledge in English Studies!”
“I gained so much knowledge about translation and literature! It was very nice!”
“I feel great! It was a good opportunity to present my work!”
