English 153 Introduction to Cultural Studies was delighted to have a guest speaker on October 17th 2023. Dr Chan Ka Ming joined us on Zoom from Taiwan to give a talk entitled "From Godzilla to Spiderman: How do Animals become National Metaphors in Popular Films?"
 
Dr Chan is a graduate of CUHK whose work focuses on eco-cinema; specifically the role and uses of animal characters in film. His talk was fascinating and relevant to the class which has been looking at examples of comic-book adaptations as well as representations in cinema. We greatly appreciate his time and the students and faculty in the classroom and online found the talk very enjoyable and a nice change from their usual classes!
